glossary of Anywhere terms

Anywhere is so revolutionary that it requires new terminology to explain it. Since Yankee Group first coined the term "Anywhere" to describe our vision of the emergence of ubiquitous connectivity, we've defined a new lexicon that has been adopted throughout Yankee Group research as well as by media and businesses to describe the effects of connectivity on enterprises, consumers, networks and the world we live in. Following is a sampling of Anywhere terms and their definitions.


Anywhere: The emergence of ubiquitous connectivity and its effect on consumers, businesses and the world.

Anywhere Brand: A company whose brand value is recognized by consumers across many channels--including print, TV, online and mobile.

Anywhere Consumer: An individual unfettered by the shackles of time and place who connects to content, society and commerce at any time from anywhere.

Anywhere Economy: A geographical area with at least one broadband line per person.

Anywhere Enterprise: An organization whose employees, customers, assets and partners connect to information and services when and where they need them.

Anywhere Experience: A networked experience that blends the quality of wired access with the ubiquity of wireless access.

Anywhere Index: The number of wired and wireless broadband lines per person in a country or region, expressed as a percentage.

Anywhere IT: Information technology that enables any user to work from any location, over any device, with the best possible experience that the device and network allow.

Anywhere Media: Media delivered to consumers when and where the consumer will pay attention to it.

Anywhere Network: A seamless intelligent network with broadband capacity and wireless ubiquity.

Anywhere Network Economy: The annual revenue generated by business and consumer broadband connectivity and the network hardware and software purchases each year that deliver those broadband connections.

Anywhere Revolution: The massive transformation the world is undergoing to achieve the Anywhere Network.

Anywhere Tipping Point: The point in a region's growth in connectivity when its broadband lines equal its population.

Anywhere Worker: An employee who is able to interact, collaborate and conduct business with other employees, customers and partners anywhere, at any time.

Emerging Anywhere: Regions of the world with fewer than one broadband line per three people.

Transforming Anywhere: Regions of the world with at least one broadband connection per three people.

Ubiquitous connectivity: Vision of a future state when a seamless global network connects all people and all the things we care about.
